Before us was the Gurdwara of Nanak, a sad structure with only its skeleton surviving. Inside there was graffiti which read, “Ibadat sirf Allah ki karien”. Under the dome of the sacred shrine there were pictures of the 10 Sikh Gurus. The faces of all of these portraits had been chiselled out. Next to the pictures, there was a verse from Nanak’s poetry establishing his commitment to monotheism. A few cowherds stood around me staring at the headless pictures of Sikh Gurus. This  was the village of Jhaman, a historical village on the outskirts of Lahore, a village that had been made famous by Guru Nanak Dev ji's visit.

                       ਤੀਰਥ ਸੰਸਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਦਾ ਲਫ਼ਜ ਹੈ, ਭਾਈ ਕਾਨ੍ਹ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਰਚਿਤ ਮਹਾਨ ਕੋਸ਼ ਪੰਨਾ 594 ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅਰਥ ਹਨ-ਜਿਸ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਜਾਈਏ, ਪਵਿਤਰ ਅਸਥਾਨ, ਜਿਥੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭਾਵ ਨਾਲ ਲੋਕ ਪਾਪ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਜਾਣ। ਸੰਸਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਤਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਪਵਿਤਰ ਥਾਂ ਤੀਰਥ ਮੰਨ ਰੱਖੇ ਹਨ। ਕਿਤਨਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਪਰਸ਼ ਮਾਤਰ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਦਾ ਸਾਧਨ ਨਿਸ਼ਚੇ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਤਾਂ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਦੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਲੈਣ ਲਈ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਤੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਉੱਤਮ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦਾ ਮੁਕਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ਾਕਸ਼ਾਤ ਸਬੰਧ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਨੇ

PP 692 of Mahan-Kosh, confirms Janam-Sakhi by Jodh Soni ( Fore- Father of Hardas Soni Daroga of Fort Gwalior), provided Satguru Nanak Sahib'S visit to whole world, to Bhai Gurdas Ji. This Janam-Sakhi ( of 1543 A. D.) was changed by Hirdei Ram Bhalla, an employee of Emperor Jahangir to "Prachin Janam-Sakhi". Mr. Hirdei Rama Bhalla was a close friend of Bhai Banno ( ref. The village Hassan Baba is located in The Valley of Temps, between Mount Olympus and Larissa.Sultan Selim-I accompanied Almighty Satguru Nanak Sahib and Bhai Sahib Mardana Ji in 1520.Sultan Selim-I was the son of Sultan Bayzeid-II, who went to India in 1511 alongwith Pir Bahlol.This Sultan and Pir Bahlol were given night dinner at Lahore by Sultan Sikander Lodhi of Delhi. Prefect Devinder Singh handed over the attendance list to the hostel superintendent Prof. Baljeet Singh Grewal and went away in the fall of 1978.At the same time Prof. S.S.Narula and myself went in to meet Prof. B.S.Grewal of Government College, Ludhiana. In 1912 Sirdar Karam Singh Historian, had confirmed the statement of Prof. Gurmukh Singh'S finding a Gurdwara Sahib in Asthrakhan. Prof. Gurmukh Singh made this statement in 1878 at Oriental College, Lahore. This is actually the first meeting of Zahiru-din-Mohammed Babur and the Prince Humanyun at the Ismail Mosque in Bukhara(Khurasan). Humanyun was about 14 years old at that time. Babur and the others came to thje Mosque to read the Namaz in the evening in the month of Ramzan of 1520. Charles Freer Andrews  An 1921, during the time of the incident of Nankana Sahib, one God fearing man Andrews was there whose name is mentioned in the Morcha of Guru Ka Bagh. He was immensely moved after viewing such a lot of bloods hed. He told the D.C. of Lahore that we have read about the crucification of Jesus Christ which was  the result of inhumanity and due to this inhuman deed, the whole world of Christianity has been denouncing the killers of Christ. But today I watched about a million Christs in the form of Sikhs being killed, slaughtered and charred to death. I was shocked as well as comforted by the fact that there were no traces of fear and violence in their sacrifices. They were sacrificing their lives happily following the path showed by their Gurus.

Encounter with Ascetics Sidhi Sadhus are a sect of ascetics. They generally live on high mountains. They believe that salvation can be sought by torturing the body. Guru Nanak Dev was a constant traveller. After covering far flung areas in the plains of India he went to important places in the Himalayan hills. While travelling in the hills, the Guru met a group of ascetics led by Gorakh Nath. They were in the first instance surprised to see the Guru at an altitude of 6000 meters. They wanted to humble him in a debate on philosophy of life. This they could not do ( i.e. they failed). Guru Nanak had better arguments. Some of the questions and answers from the discussions that took place are as follows… Nanak: What is the use of wandering around? Purity comes only through Truth. Sidhas : "Who are you? What is your name? What is your way? What is your goal? Where is your seat? Where do you live, boy? Where did you come from, and where are you going? Nanak: He (God) dwells deep within ...

It was during the time of Guru Arjan Dev Jee. Sangat was coming from Kabul (Afghanistan) to Amritsar for darshan of Gurujee. They met a Sikh and his wife on their way. This Sikh did a lot of sewa of the sangat. He massaged their legs, waved fan over them as they rested, brought water for them, everything. The next day they proceeded with this Sikh to Amritsar. As they reached Darbar Sahib, the jathedar of that Kabul sangat asked a few boys to take care of the shoes of everyone. None of the boys was ready to do it, as they all were very much eager to be the first ones to have darshan of Gurujee. At last this Sikh came forward and said I shall do it. The sangat went inside and waited for 30-45 minutes, but Gurujee didn't show up. Then the jathedar went ahead and asked Baba Buddha Jee where Gurujee was. Babajee : Gurujee has gone to see the sangat coming from Kabul. Jathedar : But we are the sangat from Kabul! Babajee : Didn't you meet Gurujee? Jathedar : No Babajee, we didn't...

ਖੰਭਵਿਕਾਂਦੜੇਜੇਲਹਾਂਘਿੰਨਾਸਾਵੀਤੋਲਿ ॥   If I could find wings for sale, I would buy them with an equal  weight of my flesh. ਤੰਨਿਜੜਾਂਈਆਪਣੈਲਹਾਂਸੁਸਜਣੁਟੋਲਿ ॥੨੧॥ I would attach them to my body, and seek out and find my  Friend. ||21||
